The NSCYCWA is a
member of the Council
of Canadian Child and
Youth Care
Associations.
Dear Guest:
Welcome to the Nova Scotia Child and Youth Care Worker's Association Web Page.

If there is anything we can do to help you, come in and give us your views, suggestions and concerns. The aims and objectives of our
Association requires us to keep completely informed about what is occurring in the child and youth care field and to ensure that our members
have opportunities to enhance their skills and knowledge as child and youth care workers. Members of the NSCYCWA are automatically a
member of the national child and youth care organization the Council of Canadian Child and Youth Care Associations. Having a direct link to
the Council of Canadian Child and Youth Care Associations and having knowledge of what is occurring within the province of Nova Scotia
may assist you with any questions you may have locally or nationally. Our web page may be able to assist you in a number of ways, such as
providing you with information as to how you may become a member, obtain links to other important child and youth care workersÕ sites,
information about our history, notices of upcoming conferences or information about previous conferences, and simply answering questions
about the NSCYCWA.

As our association grows, we welcome all child and youth care workers working within Nova Scotia to join our association. To those of you
from other provinces and other parts of the world viewing our web page we welcome your feedback and suggestions.
Over the past few years our Nova Scotia Provincial
Conference has coincided with the celebration of
International Child and Youth Care Workers week &
we took that opportunity to celebrate the
professionals involved in CYC practice across our
province by sharing a snack, & making banners.
Unfortunately, that is not happening this year, so we
have decided to recognize the hard work and
dedication of Child and Youth Care practitioners by
submitting this to our local paper. This ad ran in
2006 r for Child and Youth Care Workers Week.

Child and Youth Care Practice: Exploring Context, Discovering your Path
The burgeoning professionalism over the years has encouraged many youth care workers to look to one another for skill development and training opportunities that enable us to provide the quality of care needed. With this in mind we are drawing on the resources within this region by calling for papers that demonstrate a variety of applications of how theory meets practice.

In 1998, the association hosted the eleventh National Child and Youth

In May 2002, the International Day for

The 2006 conference was opened
up to social workers, teachers,
private practitioners and clinical
staff from hospitals. This brought
in many people who did not know
"what exactly a Youth Worker
was". There was lots of positive
feedback and acknowledgement
of the work we do and the
knowledge and skills we hold.
The goal of raising the profile of
the profession in the province was
advanced through this event.
Dr. Fox, who began her working
life as a child and youth care
professional, is especially suited
for such an event. As a consultant,
she has demonstrated the shared
knowledge and challenges
between the helping professions
and offers trainings to specific and
collaborative audiences with
insights valuable to all.
