The Council would like to thank Pat Foran and the
CYCAA for hosting the 2004 Working Day. The day
was facilitated by Carol Stuart once again. Her
report out of the day is now available in PDF format
through the link provided. Carol's work on behalf of
this initiative is deeply appreciated by the Council.

Calgary was the third working
day for the Standards and
Regulations initiative of the
Council of Canadian Child
and Youth Care Associations.
The Council was involved
and remains supportive
towards the North American
Certification Project, an
initiative of the Association for
Child and Youth Care
Practice yet found there was
a significant contrast
between the two national
situations of Canada and the
United States to explore a
Canadian alternative for the
certification of child and youth
care practitioners. Some
member associations
already certify members
while others were exploring
that. It was felt the Canadian
approach could be broader
and could include the
standards and regulations
applied to the profession
across the country.
Further, it was felt that while
the Council Board would
provide the leadership for the
initiative, it would not do so in
isolation, rather, through
consultation with members
and professionals at 'working
days' feedback and input
from across all levels of the
profession across the
country. The response has
been remarkable at all three
sessions with large sub
groups being created by
facilitator Carol Stuart to
advance the focus of
discussion. The result is an
ever evolving report which
brings together the work of
the sessions.
Thirty-nine individuals were
registered as participants out
of Calgary. Of these, twelve
had also attended Victoria
and of those, ten were at the
initial working session in St.
John's. There is clearly a core
of experience to carry the
initiative forward.
